The Vatican was within walking distance of our hotel. This is the view as one walks toward St. Peter's Basilica.

Gallery of Maps, Vatican Museums. The gallery takes it name from 40 maps frescoed on the walls. The maps represent the Italian regions and the papal properties at the time of Pope Gregory XIII (1572-1585). They were painted between 1580 and 1585 by Ignazio Danti.
